Private and federal grant dollars are declining.
Individual giving, $229.28 billion in 2008, makes up 75 percent of the
total estimated giving in the US.
Native Americans in Philanthropy believes that to build organizational capacity and sustainability, and achieve balance between the traditional and contemporary world views, strategic fundraising and philanthropy tools must be utilized. The Art of Giving, a Native fundraising and philanthropy curriculum is built upon our greatest asset – our culture; and serves as a fundraising guide that is strengthened by our stories, our tools, and our deep understanding of giving and sustaining communities.
Native Americans in Philanthropy, in partnership with Headwaters Foundation for Justice, is piloting this low-cost Fundraising Training for a select group of Native led organizations.

1. A philanthropic, fundraising curriculum that honors culture, promotes purpose, encourages inter-generational and inter-tribal participation and embraces the universal elements that connect all of life.
2. Rich in cultural traditions, embraces contemporary training, and emphasizes Native teachings, stories, values, and practices.
3. A framework that seeks to create long-term vision for capacity building in Native Communities.
4. An individual and an organizational tool for building capacity in the areas of fundraising and philanthropy.
5. Not a grant writing guide but a map for development planning.
6. An opportunity to learn, to teach, to inspire, to create, to renew.
7. A decolonized model of giving, receiving, & sharing in Native communities.
